Collect Games Physically

Lost in Cult Enters Physical Video Game Publishing

As a counterpoint to the increasingly digital marketing of games, British creatives Lost in Cult will release three video games in physical format for the first time. Further releases are planned, primarily aimed at collectors, under a curated label. It's uncertain when the products will reach stores in GSA.

Lost In Cult are the creatives behind the Design Works series of art books. Now they are trying it with video games. Three well-known video games are being released on PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch to mark the launch of their new label, Lost in Cult. What makes them special is that they are physical versions with all the game data stored on the disc. No online update is necessary. This is intended to appeal to collectors in particular. This is another reason why each of the three titles is available in two versions. One is a higher-volume version for the masses. The other is a strictly limited edition, of which the company says there will usually be between 1,500 and 5,000 units.

The first wave of products are:

  • Thank Goodness You’re Here! (Nintendo Switch/PlayStation 5)
  • Immortality (PlayStation 5)
  • The Excavation of Hob’s Barrow (Nintendo Switch)

"We’re being bold. I can unashamedly say we set out to create a new standard for physical games," said Ryan Brown, Head of Publishing at Lost In Cult. "And this is a multi-faceted mission. Our EDITIONS are designed to preserve not just the game, but the story and artistry behind its creation. At the same time, our retail releases ensure no one is locked out of owning great games physically, giving everyone a chance to play their favourites for the decades to come, internet connection willing or not."

Lost in Cult is collaborating with PM Studio, the company responsible for the global physical release of Black Myth: Wukong, for retail marketing. Many details are still unknown, such as when exactly the physical releases will be available in brick-and-mortar stores in Europe and Germany. According to the relevant websites, there is neither a PEGI nor a USK rating. The exact distribution channel in GSA has also not yet been confirmed. In the past, PM Studios worked with Flashpoint in Germany on Black Myth: Wukong, among other projects.
