Following the launch of Star Wars Outlaws at the end of August, Ubisoft will be releasing Assassin's Creed Shadows this year as well. Set in Japan, the AAA game is scheduled for release on 15 November 2024 and is designed from the ground up for the current generation of consoles.
Ubisoft has officially unveiled Assassin's Creed Shadows with a CGI trailer - and the two main characters, Naoe and Yasuke. The game will be released on 15 November 2024 on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Ubisoft+, Amazon Luna, Macs with Apple Silicon via the Mac App Store and Windows PC via the Ubisoft Store and Epic Games Store. The standard version of the game will cost 79.99 euros for new-gen platforms and 69.99 euros for PC and Macs with Apple Silicon via the Mac App Store. With a subscription to Ubisoft+ or the Ultimate Edition, players will be able to play three days earlier, on 12 November. A season pass with two later expansions and an extra mission at launch is also in the pipeline. The first gameplay trailer will be released in June.
The physical Standard Edition for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X will be available from participating retailers from 15 November, while the Gold and Collector's Editions for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X will be available from 12 November. The exclusive Limited Edition will be available on Amazon.de, including the Naoe Sekiryuu Character Pack in addition to the main game. At Media Markt, Saturn and WOG (Switzerland), pre-order customers will receive an exclusive Assassin's Creed Shadows themed steelbook. At GameStop, the exclusive Special Edition will include the Yasuke Sekiryuu Character Pack in addition to the main game. At Otto, pre-orderers will also receive two lithographs.
By the way, there was no mention of Infinity, the upcoming hub platform for the franchise, in the announcement.
Assassin's Creed Shadows is being developed under the direction of Ubisoft Québec (Assassin's Creed Odyssey), in collaboration with the following co-development studios: Ubisoft Belgrade, Ubisoft Bordeaux, Ubisoft Bucharest, Ubisoft Chengdu, Ubisoft Kyiv, Ubisoft Manila, Ubisoft Montpellier, Ubisoft Montreal, Ubisoft Odesa, Ubisoft Osaka, Ubisoft Pune, Ubisoft Shanghai, Ubisoft Singapore, Ubisoft Sofia and Ubisoft Tokyo.
The game takes players back to 16th century Japan. They will experience the intertwined story of Naoe, a skilled Shinobi assassin from the province of Iga, and Yasuke, a powerful legendary samurai. As Naoe and Yasuke, players can master two complementary play styles, with each character having their own progression path, abilities, weapon options and stats. Naoe favours stealth and infiltration, while Yasuke focuses on combat and precision.
The game features an open world with a variety of landscapes that change with the weather and seasons. Also new is the exploration mechanic, as information is essential. Players will build their own spy network to explore new areas and hunt new targets. They can also recruit allies with highly specialised skills and abilities to help them on their missions. Players can expand their network and train their new crew in a custom-built, customisable hideout.
Assassin's Creed Shadows has been built from the ground up using the latest Anvil engine to harness the power of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. Both Assassin's Creed Mirage and Assassin's Creed Valhalla have been released on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Since its launch in 2007, the Assassin's Creed franchise has sold more than 200 million copies worldwide. The last instalment in the main series was Assassin's Creed Valhalla (2020), while the more stealth-focused spin-off Assassin's Creed Mirage was released in 2023.
