The working title is history. Ubisoft announced that Assassin's Creed: Codename Red, set in feudal Japan, will be released as Assassin's Creed Shadows. It is the first title to be included in Assassin's Creed Infinity.

At the very first Assassin's Creed Showcase in September 2022, Ubisoft announced Assassin's Creed Shadows under the working title Assassin's Creed: Codename Red. It will be the next major Assassin's Creed game, set in feudal Japan. The title will be developed by Ubisoft Quebec and will be the first game to be included in Infinity, the franchise's upcoming hub platform. Ubisoft Quebec was previously responsible for Assassin's Creed Syndicate, Assassin's Creed Odyssey, and Immortals Fenyx Rising.

Assassin's Creed Shadows will be revealed on 15 May at 18:00 on the Ubisoft YouTube channel.  It is believed that the new game will be released this year. However, Ubisoft has not yet officially confirmed this date.

Since its launch in 2007, the Assassin's Creed franchise has sold more than 200 million copies worldwide. The last instalment in the main series was Assassin's Creed Valhalla (2020), while the more stealth-focused spin-off Assassin's Creed Mirage was released in 2023.

In addition to Assassin's Creed Shadows, Ubisoft is also developing Assassin's Creed Codename Hexe and the multiplayer title Assassin's Creed Codename Invictus. All three titles will be integrated into Assassin's Creed Infinity.
