SWR Continues Chat-Based "Tatort Game" on 27 October
The "Tatort Game", released in 2023, gets a sequel, again as a browser-based online crime game via Messenger dialogue, linked to the next episode of Tatort. The project was developed by SWR X Lab in collaboration with the Tatort editorial team.
On 27 October, Südwestrundfunk (SWR) will release the second part of the "Tatort-Game", in which players investigate a murder in a women's prison. In a chat conversation with the female detectives, players collect clues, solve puzzles and interpret interrogations. Guest appearances include Youtuber and Tiktoker Stroppo, DJ David Puentez and comedian Dominic Jozwiak. The search for the murderer works via a messenger dialogue in the browser - just like the first chat-based mystery game, which was released in 2023. The game takes around two hours to play.
The story of the second Tatort game is linked to the latest Ludwigshafen case, "Tatort - Dein gutes Recht", but can also be played independently. The game starts directly in the messenger dialogue with the two Ludwigshafen inspectors. Ulrike Folkerts, Lisa Bitter, Emma Nova, Samia Chancrin, Lena Drieschner, Davina Chanel Fox, Johannes Scheidweiler and Kailas Mahadevan stood in front of the camera and microphone. The SWR X-Lab and the Tatort editorial team worked together again for Tatort Game 2. Jasmin Käßer and Daniel Stolz are in charge. Editorial responsibility for Tatort lies with Nils Reinhardt. The chatbot on which the game is based was developed by Respeak under the direction of Tim Rietz. The team was complemented by the SWR/BR subsidiary pub, which was responsible for production and project management; Jolyne Gollmitzer is the project manager. The script for Tatort Game 2 was written by Katja Röder.
The first Tatort game was released in June 2023, also linked to an episode of Tatort. In addition to the Tatort game, the Bayerischer Rundfunk (BR) tested the first pen & paper Tatort on ARD's Twitch channel in April (as reported by GamesMarkt).
"Tatort" (which means "crime scene") has been broadcast since 1970 and is a series of self-contained crime thrillers in which dozens of investigative teams have been used over the years, depending on the TV production company responsible. It is a joint production of ARD, ORF and SRF. To date, over 1200 Tatort films have been produced and broadcast.
