Amplitude Studios, French studio and makers of the Endless series and other strategy games like Humankind, has proceeded to do a management buyout from Sega Europe. The former mother company has revealed this in their quarterly report, while Amplitude broke the news in their community forum. The studio is now back in the hands of the original founders.

Amplitude’s founder Romain de Waubert de Genlis commented: “Our studio is backed by strong and meaningful franchises and our team is committed to creating the best games possible. With our extensive experiences in strategy game development and two exciting titles currently in progress, we are confident in our ability to deliver outstanding experience to players. This decision allows us to be more agile in our approach while continuing to shape the vision that has been ours from the very beginning, empowering us to push boundaries and be closer as ever of our community.”

Amplitude says the next steps for them are a big patch for the 4X game Humankind, as well as some coming announcements at their inhouse showcase Amplified in January.

Sega had acquired the studio in 2016 as part of its focus on strategy games. The publisher had also sold another strategy game studio, Relic, earlier this year.
