G**amesMarkt: After almost ten years abroad, you are returning to a company in Germany, but to one of the biggest international players from Germany. Why are you taking this step now?**

**Christopher Schmitz**: After spending a decade working internationally, the opportunity to return to Germany and join one of its most renowned global players is incredibly timely for me. This move aligns perfectly with my personal and professional goals. I’m looking to apply my international experience in a context that appreciates global perspectives while being closer to home, making this the right moment for such a transition.


**GamesMarkt: What is it that attracts you to this position at Crytek?**

**Christopher Schmitz**: What excites me about joining Crytek is the chance to work at a company known for its cutting-edge technology and creative freedom. Crytek has always been a leader in game development, and this role allows me to contribute to that ongoing legacy. The ability to work with talented teams on innovative projects in an environment that encourages pushing boundaries is particularly motivating.


**GamesMarkt: Crytek is not only about making games like GaaS hit Hunt: Showdown and Crysis 4 (working title), but also about the Cryengine. What special challenges await you at Crytek?**
  
**Christopher Schmitz**: At Crytek, we are committed to delivering cutting-edge games that meet global AAA standards. Crytek competes with the finest in the industry, and my goal is to help the company reach new heights and ensure we are ready to meet these expectations. This involves pushing the limits of game development and making sure our technology and teams are ready to create outstanding games that stand out worldwide.


Crytek was founded in September 1999 by Cevat Yerli, Avni Yerli and Faruk Yerli. It is an independent video game developer, publisher and technology provider headquartered in Frankfurt, with studios in Kyiv, Ukraine and Istanbul, Turkey. Crytek developed the original [Far Cry](/game/far-cry), the Crysis series, [Ryse: Son of Rome](/game/ryse-son-of-rome), The Climb, [Robinson: The Journey](/game/robinson-the-journey) and [Hunt: Showdown](/game/hunt-showdown). Hunt: Showdown in particular has become a long-term hit as a game-as-a-service. The company is also working on a fourth Crysis game.
