Although Brenda Romero does not name names, US media outlets – citing an employee – assume that the publishing partner is Microsoft. This would indeed be a logical assumption, and not only because of the timing in relation to the current wave of layoffs. Romero Games is the studio of Brenda and John Romero, one of the co-founders and developers of id Software and games such as Doom and Quake. id Software is part of the ZeniMax/Bethesda group, which is being taken over by Microsoft and is affected by the current layoffs.
