Second Game Award in the Same Category for Melina Juergens
German-born Melina Juergens, who works for Ninja Theory in the UK, has won a Game Award for the second time. No actor has ever won the 'Best Performance' trophy twice.
Melina Juergens received the award for her portrayal of Senua in Senua's Saga: Hellblade II, the sequel to Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice (2017). The game, which is distributed by Xbox Game Studios, also won the award for Best Audio Design.
She received the award from Harrison Ford, who had previously taken the stage with Troy Baker (actor and voice actor) and Todd Howard (Bethesda) to promote Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.
While Hellblade II still focuses on the protagonist's inner demons, this time it's not the journey that's the selling point, but the talent of German actress and video editor Melina Juergens, whose initially improvised facial work soon proved to be the perfect encapsulation of Senua's emotions. With even higher fidelity graphics, Juergens' facial expressions seek to evoke the oppressive atmosphere of Senua's inner life combined with the brutality of an Iceland under the yoke of the Vikings. The sound design, so integral to the first game, also plays a major role this time around. Senua's Saga: Hellblade II is available digitally on Xbox Series X|S and PC.
