Special Exhibition 'The Portal' Opened in Munich City Hall

The interim use is being facilitated and promoted by the interdepartmental team of experts on cultural and creative industries of the state capital of Munich. The Department of Labour and Economic Development, the Department of Arts and Culture and the Municipal Department are working together on the project. The Municipal Department is providing the space, which consists of a total of seven currently unlet shop spaces in Munich City Hall.

The exhibition 'The Portal' is to show narrative VR experiences. Alongside 360-degree films, interactive VR applications will also be on display. All of the works shown have been presented at international festivals and some have even won prizes. Among others, four prizewinners from the Venice Biennale will be on display: ‘End of Night’, ‘Emperor’, ‘Flow’ and ‘Oto's Planet’ and ‘You Destroy. We Create’, which was also nominated for an Emmy.

'The Portal' is organised by Ionda, a consulting, coaching and project management company specialising in XR. In May, Ionda held a three-day programme for XR producers called XR Port Berlin in Berlin, while also running a booth at re:publica called 'The Portal', where twelve XR works by companies from Berlin and Brandenburg were shown.

"I am very pleased that with our support of 'The Portal', we are able to make the fascinating art of storytelling in virtual worlds accessible to a broad Munich audience. Many of the VR films shown there can otherwise only be found at renowned international festivals or industry events," says Anton Biebl, Head of the Department of Arts and Culture of the City of Munich.
