IGN Acquires Gamer Network Including Eurogamer and GI.Biz From ReedPop
IGN Entertainment has acquired the Gamer Network (UK) from ReedPop for an undisclosed sum. The network includes GamesIndustry.biz, Eurogamer, Rock Paper Shotgun, VG247 and Dicebreaker.
GI.biz, a member of the Gamer Network, reports that IGN Entertainment has acquired the family of digital brands from ReedPop. "Gamer Network’s publications are GamesIndustry.biz, Eurogamer (including six local language editions), Rock Paper Shotgun, VG247 and Dicebreaker. The business also holds shares in Outside Xbox, Digital Foundry and Hookshot (which operates Nintendolife, PushSquare, PureXbox and Time Extension)," the announcement said. UK events EGX and MCM and digital brand Popverse are not included in the deal. These will remain with ReedPop. Eurogamer.de will not be directly affected. The online portal is published by Extent Media under licence from Gamer Network.
Some redundancies have been made in the UK organisation as a result of the acquisition. According to Kotaku's Ethan Gach: GI.biz editor-in-chief Brendan Sinclair has also been made redundant. IGN Entertainment is the division of Ziff Davis that includes IGN, MapGenie, HowLongToBeat and Humble Bundle.
ReedPop acquired the Gamer Network in 2018, with the aim of creating a "leading global events and media group for the gaming community". ReedPop has been evaluating the sale of the UK-based Gamer Network since November 2023.
