R42, Gecko.2 and the Institute for Applied Informatics (InfAI) will host the first German Game Jam on data literacy on 7 February 2025 in the R42 building.

The focus of the Game Jam is to address aspects that are underrepresented in games, such as ethical and social issues, as well as statistical questions related to data and data usage. A jury of experts will award prizes in several categories. All game concepts developed will then be published and made freely available.

"A Game Jam is an event where participants develop games from concept to implementation in a given period of time. The focus is on teamwork, innovation and fun," explains Yuna Avetysyan from the R42 team. The aim of the one-day Game Jam on data literacy is to create concepts for digital games or applications that encourage a reflective approach to data, reduce misconceptions and address the responsible use of data. "The Game Jam is aimed at anyone interested in games and data, regardless of their previous knowledge," continues Yuna Avetysyan, whether they are developers, designers, data scientists, students, existing teams, companies or start-ups.

The event will take place at R42 (Ritterstraße 42, 04109 Leipzig). It starts at 9:30 a.m., doors open at 9:00 a.m. and ends around 10:00 p.m. Attendance is free. Places are limited. Those interested can register by emailing Yuna Avetysyan at yuna@gecko-two.de by Tuesday, 4 February 2025.

The Game Jam is supported by the Office for Economic Development of the City of Leipzig as part of a cluster funding programme. The Game Jam is organised by the Institute for Applied Computer Science as part of the research project "Toolbox Datenkompetenz" (Toolbox Data Literacy) funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
