Womenize! Returns With Passion
With the first face-to-face event since the beginning of the pandemic, Womenize! is back as an important and inspiring event for women in the games industry. Right from the welcome, a very important aspect becomes clear: passion.
Passion is a very personal thing. This quickly becomes apparent at Womenize! 2024, taking place today at the Institut français Berlin. In her welcome address, Madeleine Egger, Head of Womenize!, gives a very personal insight into how a visit to Womenize! 2018 not only inspired her and awakened her passion for the event, but also had a lasting impact on her professional career. Ruth Lemmen, who founded the format with Michael Liebe, also shared her personal Womenize! moment. It happened before the format even existed. While attending an awards ceremony in the 2000s, she was struck by the under-representation of women in the industry, which she wanted to change and which ultimately led to the development of Womenize!
The opening keynote, delivered by Microsoft's Maxi Graeff, also focused on passion. Graeff talked about her personal career in the games industry. The openness to share not only the highlights but also the challenges was well received by the predominantly female audience, which led to more questions than could be answered in the Q&A session.
The first few presentations were enough to get Womenize! off to a flying start because that is what the event is all about: information, inspiration, role models and networking. The fact that not all questions could be answered immediately after the talk is also an opportunity, because there will be plenty of opportunities to discuss them in person with the speakers during the course of the day. Especially since the day ends with a final networking session.
