Exographer
A game based on the science of particle physics: Made real by SciFunGames, a new studio emerged from Ecole polytechnique in France. Published by Barcelona stable Abylight, Exographer tries something unique in the metroidvania genre.
In a Franco-Spanish cooperation, Barcelona publisher Abylight Studios and Paris studio SciFunGames are releasing Exographer, a “metroidvania based on science”, as the marketing material reads. Remarkably, Abylight Studios has an established back catalogue with games like One Military Camp and even has its own publishing division, responsible for bringing Spanish indie darlings like Cursed Castilla to market. For SciFunGames meanwhile, Exographer is the first foray into gaming overall. The young team has emerged from the Science and Videogame academic chair of Ecole polytechnique, France and is concentrated entirely on games that have to do with science.
Fittingly then, Exographer promises to be just that. The game plays like an exploration adventure in the metroidvania genre, but its mechanics are based on particle physics. The game is puzzle-heavy, and typical to the genre the riddles get more and more complex and require more skills that are based on different elementary particles to solve. Story and setting were written by science-fiction author and physicist Raphaël Granier De Cassagnac The Music is composed by Yann Van Der Cruyssen, who made the music for Annapurna’s hit cat game Stray as well.
A unique concept for a metroidvania platformer combines with the first effort of a studio based in science.
