FFF Bayern Funds Six XR Projects With a Total of €300,000
FFF Bayern's extended reality (XR) funding committee met yesterday and recommended six projects for funding totalling €300,000: four productions and two developments.
The interactive Salzsammler XR floor projection, in which children immerse themselves in maps, was supported by FFF Bayern during the development phase. Now, FFF production funding of €90,000 has been provided. The experience is being realised by Schilling & Schäfer/Salzsammler Studios, which is based in Munich.
DeMaré is an immersive MR multiplayer experience (LBE installation, Quest 3) that combines the stories of traditional fishing communities with insights from marine biology to highlight the changing ecological situation of the oceans. The Munich-based Actrio Studio is producing the project with author and director Emilia Sánchez Chiquett. It takes viewers from the coast of Brazil to the depths of the world's oceans. €70,000 has been pledged for the project.
In the VR experience What the Fox, produced by Manuel Steitz for Meta Quest 3, users step into the paws of a red fox and embark on an interactive journey through a big city at night. The production is receiving €50,000 in funding.
In Mary Shelley – The Lost Memory, spec.studio from Dachau combine literary history and AI for smartphones and tablets. Players take on the roles of researchers tasked with repairing a flawed digital version of the author Mary Shelley. In a virtual study, they solve puzzles, reactivate AI modules, and explore how data shapes personality. This project is receiving €35,000.
In addition to these four production grants, two project developments are also being funded. Nicole Popst from Tittmoning will receive €30,000 for The Passage (Meta Quest 3/VR installation), a narrative VR experience about transgenerational trauma and the transmission of memory. Softmachine Immersive Productions from Munich will receive €25,000 for Space Quiz - The Interactive Family Dome Quiz (WT). This interactive, educational 360° dome experience is designed for families and school classes.
