In 2007, Recettear successfully combined the RPG genre with shopkeeping. In 2018, Spanish studio Digital Sun and Polish studio 11 bit released Moonlighter, which also successfully explored this theme. During the day, players ran their own shop and fought in dungeons at night to collect new goods to sell. Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault sees the adventure enter its next phase, this time in full 3D. This action RPG with roguelike elements tells a tale of new beginnings, but the core gameplay mechanics remain the same and will be expanded upon. Players can look forward to much more dynamic and varied dungeons.

As players progress, parts of the path ahead are revealed, helping them to plan their route while keeping some tiles hidden until they are discovered. Risk-reward paths, secrets and quests await, rekindling that sense of surprise that defined the original game. The shop remains at the heart of the game, with the feature to set prices for every relic. Fans made it clear that pricing strategy is a key part of the fantasy. Shops now have recurring customers and a calendar system that affects relic demand. They can also be decorated to grant gameplay-altering perks. The backpack system has also been reworked. Relics now have a quality value which translates into price multipliers back at the shop. This adds to the thrill of discovery and, while preserving the inventory logic puzzle. The village of Tresna will expand and flourish while keeping business flowing.
"While our original plan was set for October 23, the month has filled up with so many other great releases that we feel it has become too crowded for us. And as every wise shopkeeper knows, even the most precious gem can be overlooked in an overstuffed showcase. With that in mind, we’ve decided to move our release to November 19."
