Aesir Interactive is developing another game in the Windstorm franchise, known in Germany as Ostwind. Windstorm: The Legend of Khiimori is set in 13th century Mongolia and promises "realistic" equestrian gameplay and physics developed on Unreal Engine 5.

Aesir Interactive from Munich and Mindscape from the Netherlands have announced Windstorm: The Legend of Khiimori. The open-world adventure game allows players to explore landscapes on horseback. Developed on Unreal Engine 5, the game features "high-fidelity graphics and unparalleled realism in equine behaviour and animation," according to Aesir. Assuming the role of an ancient courier rider in 13th century Mongolia, players will complete missions, manage their nomad camp, and train and care for horses as they unravel the mystery of Khiimori, the mythical "wind horse" and spirit of the earth and sky. The new game builds on the open-world aspect that the Windstorm aka Ostwind games are known for.

"The Windstorm series has connected with so many people over the years, and we're looking forward to entering a new generation in the franchise with Windstorm: The Legend of Khiimori," says Wolfgang Emmer, CEO at Aesir Interactive. "Our team has been hard at work refining and innovating gameplay to deliver the most realistic horse gameplay experience, approved by experts. We're eager for players to experience the legendary bond between horse and rider, whether they are a longtime fan or discovering the adventures of Windstorm for the very first time."

Windstorm: The Legend of Khiimori will launch in Early Access on Steam in September 2024, at an early stage in its development, so the team can iterate based on community input. Windstorm: Start of a Great Friendship - Remastered will also be released on 20 June 2024. Horse Tales: Emerald Valley Ranch was released on 3 November 2022 by Aesir Interactive and Microids.

The development of the game was funded by the BMWK, specifically the "Whisper 3" project, which received 1,471,162 Euros.
