In 2024, the Belgian games market reached a sales volume of €698 million. According to the VGFB, revenue from game sales, gaming services, and gaming hardware increased by 12% compared to the previous year.

“Belgium continues to be a video game powerhouse, with upward sales across the board,” said David Verbruggen, General Manager of the Video Games Federation Belgium. “Looking at full software sales in detail, 72% are digital downloads—meaning Belgium still lags behind the global average of around 85% digital software sales. We also observe that during the busy end-of-year season, more physical games are sold, as a boxed version simply looks better under the Christmas tree. That said, revenue from full physical software sales is roughly half that of full digital downloads.”

At first glance, this growth may seem surprising. While other markets, such as the UK and Germany, have reported declines, the VGFB itself had previously stated [total 2023 revenues](https://www.gamesmarket.global/business/vgfb-market-data-belgian-games-market-grows-to-708-million-euros-763f6649fc44f91d69d86d51d9391476) of €708 million. The discrepancy arises from differing definitions: in 2023, the figure also included international revenues generated by Belgian companies. In the latest release, the VGFB puts the domestic market volume for 2023 at €623 million, implying that Belgian companies earned €85 million internationally that year. A significant portion of this likely came from Baldur’s Gate 3, developed by Belgium’s Larian Studios.
