Capcom has announced that sales of Street Fighter 6 have surpassed 5 million units. The Japanese publisher also provided updates on M&A, investments, pricing policies and trends, emphasising the importance of the PC market.

Capcom has announced that cumulative sales of Street Fighter 6, which was released in 2023, have surpassed 5 million units. The fighting game was recently released as a launch title for Nintendo Switch 2. Prior to its release, Capcom anticipated 10 million sales over the game's entire lifespan. Its predecessor, Street Fighter V, released in February 2016, has sold 7.8 million units to date. "In addition to introducing exclusive modes designed specifically for the Nintendo Switch 2, and new gameplay features that utilize the gyro functionality of the Joy-Con 2, Local Battles, and more," the publisher states. "This version also supports cross-play, enabling users to enjoy the game together across different platforms. These initiatives have contributed to Street Fighter 6’s wide appeal, expanded global sales and resulted in the title achieving the milestone of 5 million units sold."

Capcom has also shared the answers from the investor Q&A session. Regarding the current industry pricing standards for new titles and the outlook going forward, the company stated: "Considering all the factors related to development costs, such as adapting to cutting-edge technology and labor costs, as well as the total playtime offered by each title, we believe that the current pricing of new titles is appropriate. However, we remain flexible in considering our approach to pricing." The publisher is currently selling the standard edition of Monster Hunter Wilds for PC at €69.99 and for consoles at €79.99. Incidentally, Capcom has stated that promotional activities surrounding the release of Monster Hunter Wilds have contributed to increased sales of previous Monster Hunter games.

Capcom is committed to attracting new talent, aiming to hire 150 graduates each fiscal year in order to keep pace with industry development. The Japanese company is maintaining its net cash levels while investing in development infrastructure, such as the construction of its new headquarters, and considering mergers and acquisitions in emerging technology fields that could contribute to future growth.

In the fiscal year ending in March 2025, the PC market accounted for over 50% of Capcom's total unit sales. "We expect this level to gradually rise in the fiscal year ending March 2026 and onward, driven by the increasing ownership of gaming PCs globally, including in Japan, and the fact that catalog sales in emerging markets are primarily PC-based." Capcom plans to invest 58.3 billion Yen (rund 343 Millionen Euro) in R&D during the current financial year ending in March 2026. "We believe that development investments will continue to increase given factors such as the continued advancements in hardware and rising labor costs." And they aim to "improve efficiency" through measures such as updates to Capcom's proprietary RE Engine. Recently, there have been increasing reports of crashes and performance issues with Monster Hunter Wilds, particularly on PC.

Capcom believes that the current samurai trend and interest in Japan's Warring States period could benefit Onimusha (movies, TV shows, games). "Given the long history and global sales track record of the Onimusha series, we believe this title is well-positioned to benefit from the current trend and expect it to achieve a certain level of sales units."

Incidentally, Capcom is satisfied with Dragon's Dogma 2's sales figures, which stand at 3.70 million since its release in March 2024. "We will continue to actively promote the title and aim to increase catalogue sales for the series." By the way, key cards for  Nintendo Switch 2 are recorded as digital sales, not physical sales.
