The Game Awards Reaches New Record with 154m Viewer
Almost 16,000 co-streams on YouTube and Twitch, but also a general increase in interest, have driven global viewership of Geoff Keighley's awards ceremony and new releases show to new record heights.
The final result of 154 million viewers is perhaps only an estimate, but there is no dispute that The Game Awards 2024 set new records. In 2023, the viewership was 118 million, in 2022, 103 million. Before that, the viewership was in the tens of millions. The fantastic global reach is also made possible by the many co-streams, because unlike other media's award ceremonies, the Game Awards have no exclusive broadcasting rights. And so gamers worldwide had the opportunity to watch Geoff Keighley's show either on The Game Awards channels or on the more than 4,500 YouTube or more than 11,000 Twitch channels that streamed the show.
According to the organizers, the number of players who voted also increased. Over 112 million people cast their vote, 25 percent more than last year. From a marketing perspective, the increased number of platforms that broadcast the Game Awards in Asia is particularly interesting. The organizers specifically mention Bilbili, Huya, Weibo, WeChat, Douyin, Zhihu, DouYu, Baidu, NetEase CC, Tencent Video, QQ, Kuishou and HeyBox in China, CHZZK and Soop in South Korea and NicoNico in Japan.
