Vivendi Universal Games hat das Entwicklerstudio Turbine Entertainment mit der Arbeit am Onlinegame "Middle-Earth Online", basierend auf der "Herr der Ringe"-Lizenz, beauftragt.

Vivendi Universal Games (VUG) arbeitet an einem neuen "Herr der Ringe"-Onlinespiel. Wie das Unternehmen mitteilt, wurde Turbine Entertainment mit der Entwicklung von "Middle-Earth Online" beauftragt. Das Spiel soll im kommenden Jahr fertig werden. VUG ist Lizenzpartner von Tolkien Enterprises und hält die Rechte an Spieleumsetzungen nach den Büchern von J. R. R. Tolkien. Dennoch ist es fraglich, ob VUG bei dem geplanten Onlinetitel nicht doch noch Konkurrenz bekommt. Da Electronic Arts die Rechte an Spieleumsetzungen der derzeitigen "Herr der Ringe"-Kinofilme erworben hat, könnte EA ebenfalls an einem "Herr der Ringe"-Online-Universum arbeiten.
