BIG has become the first German team to secure a partnership with GreenMedical in the cannabis sector. Such partnerships have previously only existed at an international level, so this is a novel development for the GSA region.

At first glance, cannabis and esports seem like an unusual duo. However, Berlin International Gaming (BIG) and GreenMedical, a subsidiary of the CKM Group, have announced a partnership aimed at raising awareness of medical cannabis and digital health services. The partnership was facilitated by Berlin-based gaming and esports agency Freaks 4U Gaming.

Christoph Neumeier, Founder and Managing Director of GreenMedical, on the cooperation: "With BIG, we have gained a partner that stands for performance, community, and modern health culture-sharing our values. We are closing a knowledge gap: medical cannabis is not a lifestyle product, but an effective medicine that has been underutilized. Our approach offers the lowest-threshold and safest access - fully digitally supported and medically supervised. This creates a legal and high-quality alternative to risky self-treatment with black-market cannabis. Together, we can dispel outdated ways of thinking, counter stigmatization, and make it easier for patients to access modern, digital healthcare. This aligns perfectly with our patient-centered and hybrid care approach."

As part of the partnership, GreenMedical will be present at various events with BIG's Counter-Strike team, including giveaways, branding and other activities. "With its proximity to the digital world and shared openness to new, important topics, the partnership provides the perfect platform and foundation to raise awareness in this key target group. There is a decisive difference between uncontrolled black-market products and standardized, medically tested pharmaceuticals," said BIG. Together with BIG, GreenMedical will reach a young, digitally savvy audience who are aware of the importance of responsible use.

"As one of the leading esports organizations in Germany, we also bring socially relevant topics to our community," says Daniel Finkler, CEO of BIG. "With GreenMedical, we have found a partner that stands for modern, digital healthcare solutions and supports education about medical cannabis. Together, as pioneers in German esports and gaming, we are sending a clear signal for complementary, responsible therapies. We are very much looking forward to the upcoming joint steps and campaigns."

The German market has grown rapidly since the partial legalisation of cannabis for medicinal use in 2024 through the Medical Cannabis Act (MedCanG): from around €185 million in revenue in 2021 to over €450 million in 2024.
