Kalypso Media Enters Partnership with Cloud Gaming Service Blacknut
German publisher Kalypso Media is bringing a selection of games from its back catalogue to Blacknut's Cloud Gaming platform. Kalypso hopes to tap into new target groups, while Blacknut aims to strengthen its offering in the strategy genre.
The selected games from Kalypso Media will be integrated into Blacknut's standard subscription starting on 27 June. These are titles that have been available on the market for some time. Sudden Strike 4, Tropico 5, Railway Empire, Matchpoint – Tennis Championships, Port Royale 4 and Dungeons 3 have been announced by name.
For the Worms-based publisher, the partnership with the French Cloud Gaming provider is a good opportunity to expand its target audience. "Our goal at Kalypso Media has always been to create high quality strategy and simulation games that reward smart thinking and offer lasting gameplay. Partnering with Blacknut allows us to share these experiences with even more players in a format that’s instantly accessible. It’s a great opportunity to welcome new players into the Kalypso universe, no matter where or how they play", says Dr Anika Thun, Managing Director Kalypso Media.
Blacknut's cloud gaming offering is available in over 65 countries and consists of over 500 curated premium games. These come from around 150 industry partners, which now include Kalypso. In addition to the standard subscription, which is comparable to classic video streaming subscriptions, users can purchase additional publisher passes or subscriptions. This gives them access to additional titles that are not included in the normal subscription. Until recently, two French publishers in particular – Ubisoft and Focus Entertainment (Pullup) – had taken advantage of this opportunity to market their catalogue titles via a streaming subscription without having to operate their own platform. However, a few weeks ago, an SNK Pass was launched, giving access to 25 classics from the Japanese publisher.
"Kalypso’s portfolio is all about giving players agency — whether that’s political power, economic influence, or supernatural control. With Blacknut, we’re putting those choices directly into players’ hands, wherever they are, on the devices they already own. It’s a perfect match," says Nabil Laredj, VP of Business Development & Licensing at Blacknut.
