Many New Games and Even More Old Friends
August shook up the German gaming charts. New entries such as Mafia, Metal Gear Solid, and NBA 2K made it to the top or into the top 10, but six re-entries also made it onto the list.
The current gaming charts from Germany have little in common with last month's list. There were a total of five new entries and six re-entries in the top 20, so it's more a question of which games remained on the list rather than which new ones entered it. Of course, there are the ever-popular titles such as GTA, EA Sports FC, and Hogwarts Legacy.
Nevertheless, it's worth taking a look at the new and returning chart titles. Number one in Germany is 2K's Mafia: The Old Country. Here, the PlayStation EU charts recently published by Sony once again proved to be a good indicator. What is surprising, however, is that Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater has even managed to beat NBA 2K26 to become the second highest new entry on the list. And the fact that EA Sports Madden NFL 26 also ranks in the German games charts shows the fruits of the NFL's internationalization strategy, even if there is still a long way to go before the upcoming EA Sports FC has anything to worry about.
The flood of re-entries, on the other hand, can be explained by various sales promotions, also with a view to upcoming new releases. Battlefield 2042 is likely to have benefited from the Battlefield 6 beta, and Anno 1800 from the hype surrounding the upcoming Anno 117.
The data is collected by Games Sales Data (GSD), a platform launched by Video Games Europe to measure physical and digital sales of computer and video games. The charts provide a unique and comprehensive overview of the most successful games in Germany in a given month. The charts are published monthly by game - the German Games Industry Association. Digital sales of Nintendo titles from the Nintendo eShop are not included.
