Final Fantasy fans have been waiting a long time for this comeback, and now the time has finally arrived. Square Enix is releasing Final Fantasy Tactics in a revamped form on modern platforms, with numerous improvements and modernisations, while maintaining the fundamentals of the game.

Square Enix is bringing back a classic that has been eagerly awaited by countless fans of strategy RPGs, with the release of Final Fantasy Tactics - The Ivalice Chronicles. The game features challenging, strategic, turn-based tactical battles combined with an in-depth character progression system offering over 20 jobs and more than 300 combinable character skills. Victory hinges on terrain, character traits and individual customisations. In combat, players must skilfully navigate the grid-based battlefield, seek advantageous positions, and select from a range of melee attacks, spells, and other abilities to secure victory. Recruiting powerful allies and developing their abilities over time is crucial, but beware - allies who fall in battle may be lost permanently if they are not helped in time.

"As your party members grow, they will gain access to more jobs, each with its own unique abilities. Once learned, abilities can be used even after changing to another job. With over 20 jobs to master - including white mage, black mage, dragoon, and many others from the Final Fantasy series - and hundreds of abilities to learn, you have the freedom to experiment and discover the combinations that best suit your party. Chocobos and other creatures can also be tamed and led into battle." - Square Enix

The Ivalice Chronicles offers Enhanced and Classic modes. In Enhanced Mode, the script has been reworked, with fully voiced English and Japanese dialogue. Additional dialogue has been added between characters. The user interface has been modernised, and the visuals have been improved. Accessibility is increased by new features such as turn order indicators at the touch of a button, a tactical overview of the battlefield, fast-forward options for battles, automatic saving during combat and customisable difficulty levels.

The English voice cast for Final Fantasy Tactics - The Ivalice Chronicles features new talent and returning contributors to the Final Fantasy series, including Joe Pitts (Ramza), Gregg Lowe (Delita), Hannah Melbourn (Agrias), Timothy Watson (Cidolfus), Harry McEntire (Mustadio) and Ben Starr (Dycedarg). The cast also features appearances by Cody Christian (Cloud Strife) and Briana White (Aerith Gainsborough) from the Final Fantasy VII Remake series.

Classic Mode recreates the original 1997 version of Final Fantasy Tactics, including the familiar War of the Lions (2007) translation but without the additional content of the PSP version.

Final Fantasy Tactics - The Ivalice Chronicles has been rated 12 by the USK and will be released on 30 September 2025 for Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, PC (Steam) and Steam Deck.
