Crimson Desert from Pearl Abyss hit the market with a bang following its release on 19 March 2026. The open-world action-adventure game from the South Korean company features nearly every imaginable game mechanic and had considerable hype surrounding it before launch. However, shortly before launch, reviews from the specialist press were only “good to very good”, causing the company’s stock price to plummet by 30%. Expectations were perhaps a little too high, but this was premature. Nevertheless, it sold two million copies in the first 24 hours and three million in the first four days. This was partly due to Pearl Abyss's unusually open and quick communication right after release, in which they addressed weaknesses such as the controls (mouse and keyboard), missing quality of life (QoL) features, and bugs. They released the first patches just a few days after launch. This demonstrates that the company was able to iterate and respond quickly, thanks in part to its experience with the MMO Black Desert Online.

Due to open communication with players via gaming platforms and social media, as well as rapid improvements, the game managed to have more concurrent active players on the second weekend than on the launch weekend. Sales have since reached four million. The company’s stock price reflects this success too, reaching an all-time high in early April. Since then, the update cadence has slowed slightly, but Pearl Abyss continues to show players that it implements its announcements quickly. Just a few hours ago, the developers announced some further improvements based on feedback from the community. These are set to be released gradually between April and June. They include the ability to re-challenge bosses, three difficulty levels (currently, the game has only one), new abilities for the other two playable characters, specialised storage, numerous UI improvements, better controls and much more besides.

The company knew its action-adventure game had the potential to be a major hit, but the marketing campaign featuring previews and gameplay showcases didn't kick off until late January 2026, despite hands-on demos at gamescom and other events. It was already clear at that time that the game would be released in retail as a Day One Edition for PC (code in a box), PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S for €69.99, as well as a Deluxe Edition for €89.99, in collaboration with distribution partner Plaion. An elaborate Collector's Edition was also created, which is unusual for a new IP from a studio otherwise known only for an MMO. Here, too, the studio spared no expense, creating a Collector's Edition priced at €280 for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Due to high demand, as the Collector's Edition is a limited-edition package available only while supplies last, the edition is currently out of stock at retailers such as Amazon and Media Markt (though not on all platforms). The collector's package includes the full version of the game, an elaborate 17x11x10-inch (44x28x25 cm / LWH) diorama, a fabric map of Pywel, a letter from the developers, three types of character photo cards, a Graymane brooch and three types of patches, as well as the Deluxe and Ultimate Packs of in-game content. Pearl Abyss has partnered with Plaion for distribution purposes.

In addition, the German system integrator Mifcom and the Austrian publisher Plaion have announced a partnership with Pearl Abyss. Together, they have come up with the Crimson Desert Gaming Edition: a custom gaming PC featuring a design inspired by the AAA title. This limited edition was developed by Mifcom in collaboration with technology partners Corsair and Sapphire Technology. To celebrate the launch, one computer will be given away in a competition. The Crimson Desert Gaming Edition features an AMD Ryzen 7 9700X processor (Zen 5, eight cores, 3.8 GHz) on a Sapphire Nitro+ B850A motherboard with Wi-Fi 7. It is paired with a Sapphire Nitro+ AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT with 16 GB of VRAM. The system also features 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) of DDR5-6000 Corsair Vengeance RGB RAM; a 1 TB WD Blue SN5100 PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD; and a Corsair iCUE LINK TITAN 360 RX LCD RGB all-in-one liquid cooling system. The system is housed in a Corsair 3500X ARGB case and powered by an 850 W MIFCOM Performance M1G power supply.
