Eintracht Spandau is Primarily Positioning itself as a Streamer Team

Despite sporting success, the esports organization Eintracht Spandau has not had a single economically successful year so far. Therefore, the costs for sporting operations and infrastructure are being cut. However, the entertainment value is not to be compromised.
Despite the cost cutting that have now been announced, every single team member at Eintracht Spandau is still determined to achieve the maximum in sporting terms. As Christian Baltes, Co-CEO Director, and Kevin Westphal, Esports Lead at Eintracht Spandau, announced in a video, the focus is being shifted from sporting to entertainment excellence.
The background to the changes is – and here Eintracht Spandau is being very forthright – economic realities. "We are in an ecosystem that does not financially reward sporting success at all," say those in charge. Specifically, despite sporting success in the past three years, there has not been a single economically successful year. However, in order to build something sustainable with Eintrach Spandau, costs have to be reduced. It's not about maximizing profits, there have been no profits, but about ensuring that Eintrach Spandau can continue to exist in the future, Baltes and Westphal say.
As an esports organization, there are three main cost blocks that can be adjusted. In addition to the costs for sporting operations, these are infrastructure costs for the office or player apartments, and costs of achieving media reach, i.e. for the production of content. However as Baltes and Westphal say, content production is fundamental for the commercialization and identity of Eintracht Spandau, which is why the team will position itself primarily as a streaming team in the future. This does not change their sporting ambition. However, whether the sporting successes can be celebrated as they have this year is another matter. In spring 2024, Eintracht Spandau won the “double” of the Prime League Championship, the Riots League of Legends League for GSA, and the EMEA Masters.
