Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster Will Not Be Released in Germany
The recently announced Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster will not be released in Germany. Capcom has confirmed this to GamesMarkt, as the remaster is likely to be considered identical to the banned original.
The remaster of Dead Rising, appropriately named Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, announced by Capcom, will not be released in Germany. This was confirmed by Capcom in response to an inquiry from GamesMarkt. As a remaster, Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster is likely to be considered identical (in German: inhaltsgleich) to the original Dead Rising, which is still on the list of banned media (aka Index) in Germany. This also applies to versions for other platforms. If someone from Germany visits the corresponding Steam Store website, they will receive the error message: "This item is currently unavailable in your region." In Austria and Switzerland, the remaster will be available for digital download on 19 September 2024 for PC (Steam), PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
The 2006 original for Xbox 360 was never officially released in Germany as the game did not have a USK rating at the time and Microsoft did not distribute titles in Germany that did not have a USK rating. It was therefore only available as an import. In 2007, the UK and EU versions of the game were banned/confiscated due to the depiction of violence. This decision was reversed in 2018 after some back and forth. The title was moved from List B to List A. Capcom's application for removal from the list was not overturned because the 12-member committee felt that the game was still morally harmful to young people due to the use of everyday objects as weapons, the lifelike mall setting and the fact that dead opponents lying on the ground could still be wounded.
