EA Sports FC Skips Gold and Platinum Awards at Launch
There was no question that the new EA Sports FC would receive a sales award in its launch month, and now we know which one it is. And who else can celebrate.

Two games met the criteria for a Game Sales Award in September, and at least for one of the two titles, anything else would have been a sensation. That's because Electronic Arts' EA Sports FC 26, the latest installment in the series, is one of the games that received an award from the association. As a contender for the best-selling game of 2025, the question was more about which award EA Sports FC 26 would receive at launch. That has now been clarified as well. According to the statutes, the title will receive a multi-platinum award for over 600,000 units sold in Germany alone. This means that EA Sports FC 26 skips all lower levels such as gold (100,000 units), platinum (200,000 units), and double platinum (400,000 units).
The unconventional shooter Borderlands 4, on the other hand, takes a more conventional approach. Developed and marketed by Gearbox and 2K/Take-Two Interactive, the game sold over 100,000 units in Germany at launch, earning it a Gold Award. But that doesn't have to be the end of the line: the game Sales Award counts sales in the first twelve months after release.
