Second-Best Launch (CCU) for THQ Nordic: Titan Quest II Gets off to a Strong Start on Steam
More than 27,000 people played Titan Quest II concurrently after its surprise Early Access launch on Steam last weekend. The action RPG, developed by Grimlore Games, is now the second-fastest launch in the history of its publisher, THQ Nordic.
The shadow drop risk has paid off. On 1 August 2025, THQ Nordic released Titan Quest II in Early Access during its own showcase. On Friday night, the number of concurrent players (CCU) on Steam rose to 12,000. The highest CCU to date was achieved on Sunday, with 27,099 players. This puts the action role-playing game second only to Biomutant (55,048) in terms of CCU peak for the Austrian publisher, ahead of Jagged Alliance 3 (25,366), Elex (22,969) and Titan Quest Anniversary Edition (19,497 during a free-to-keep promotion). The actual number of Titan Quest II players is likely to be higher, as the game is also available on the Epic Games Store. Last week, only one new Steam launch had higher CCU figures: Grounded 2 from Obsidian Entertainment and Xbox, with 48,872.
THQ Nordic is pursuing an aggressive pricing strategy. The Early Access version on Steam and the Epic Games Store is currently selling for €29.99, discounted by 20% for launch week only. The full 1.0 release is expected to cost €49.99.
Currently, 83 per cent of the 4,654 user reviews are positive. Users praise the classic atmosphere, hand-crafted level design and presentation, and the game's good technical condition (few bugs and crashes). They also appreciate the authentic Titan Quest feel. The same applies to the calmer, more tactical gameplay compared to that of Diablo IV and Path of Exile 2, and to the flexible character system. A cooperative multiplayer mode is available as a separate start option. However, critics complain about the lack of content in the Early Access version, as well as balance issues, the absence of a character editor, and the lack of complex crafting systems and quality-of-life features.
THQ Nordic: "Titan Quest II will evolve over time, shaped by your feedback and forged in the fires of community. Our aim? To emerge from the labyrinth of Early Access by the end of 2026. (...) In the distance, whispers speak of a character creator, where heroes may shape their form as boldly or as subtly as Hephaestus shapes bronze. Ancient forges stir with the promise of crafting and transmogrification, arcane arts that let you wield your chosen armaments while appearing as heroic as a demigod. New masteries await, shrouded in mystery, offering paths of power not yet walked. Realms unseen and foes unknown gather beyond the mists, waiting for champions worthy of their wrath."
