As part of the Equal eSports Initiative, Telekom is sponsoring SK Gaming's first Valorant women's team. The company wants to set an example for inclusion and equal opportunities in competitive gaming.

Deutsche Telekom is expanding its Equal eSports Initiative. Valorant, the tactical team shooter from Riot Games, is now part of the programme. For this purpose, the company is including SK Nebula, the first Valorant women's team, in its support. As the main partner of SK Gaming, Deutsche Telekom reaffirms its commitment to making the esports landscape "fairer and more diverse through the targeted support of female talent".

SK Gaming and Deutsche Telekom will present the foundation of Team SK Nebula on 13 April 2024 with the "SK Gaming Valorant Scouting Grounds" competition, which will be livestreamed on Twitch. The competition will see ten players showcase their skills under the guidance of professional coaches. The best talents from the competition will form the team that will compete in Project Queens, the German Valorant women's league, from May until the end of the year. The long-term goal is to qualify for the Valorant Game Changers, Europe's top women's league.

"With the support of SK Nebula, we are adding another esports title to the promotion of diversity and equality in the gaming world. The decision to include Valorant in the Equal eSports Initiative programme reflects the desire to create a comprehensive and inclusive environment in the esports industry. All players, regardless of gender or identity, should have the same opportunities," said Antje Hundhausen, Vice President Brand Experience and initiator of the Equal eSports Initiative.

"Valorant enriches our programme to create an inclusive and competitive environment," explains Hundhausen. "And the timing is right: the launch of Clove, the first non-binary agent, by Riot Games in March 2024 reinforces Valorant's message about the importance of diverse character representation that reflects the diversity of the global player base."

The Equal eSports initiative is dedicated to breaking down the barriers faced by female and non-binary players in esports. Telekom is implementing the project with the eSports Player Foundation and SK Gaming.
