A 13-year-old has won the "Bayern zockt" esports tournament series, which took place in Bavaria during Football European Championship Euro 24. The Bavarian Football Association, which welcomed Digital Minister Dr Fabian Mehring to the final, is pleased with the event.

The final of "Bayern zockt" took place one day before the actual final of Euro 24. After the online qualifiers, 64 finalists met at the WWK Arena in Augsburg to determine the winner of the esports tournament, which was organised by the Bayerischer Fußball Verband (BFV, Bavarian Football Association) and the Bayerisches Staatsministerium für Digitales (Bavarian Ministry for Digital Affairs) alongside the Euro 24 European Football Championship. In the end, 13-year-old Robert 'FOKUS_Robi' Brysik beat BFV-Esports-Cup winner Dylan 'DullenMike' Neuhausen.

BFV President Christoph Kern and Bavaria's Digital Minister Fabian Mehring also attended the final. Mehring explained: "The European Championship euphoria currently sweeping the country was the ideal time to draw the public's attention to the topic of esports in cooperation with the Bavarian Football Association. Our event combined the best of both worlds: analogue football and digital gaming.

The association was also satisfied. "The atmosphere in Augsburg was excellent, the setting highly professional," said Christoph Kern. "The esports market is developing rapidly and we have to be careful not to lose touch." E-gaming is a rapidly growing sport, and the association's goal is to get the younger generation involved, he explained. "It's particularly important to us that it's not just about gaming, but that we want to integrate esports into the club structures in the long term and thus revitalise club life. We want to bring analogue football and console gaming together," says Kern.
