From now until its release on December 11, the “Handbuch Gameskultur 2.0” can be ordered in the shop of the German Cultural Council at a subscription price that is five euros cheaper. After that, the 362-page book will cost €24.80. The content of the greatly expanded second edition has been completely revised so that all contributions from the first volume reflect the current state of the discussion. The book has also been supplemented with additional texts on topics such as the GDR and East Germany, pop culture, old technology & new art, democracy, subversion & the demo scene, and artificial intelligence.

The book addresses essential questions, such as why games are culture, what games have to do with sports, and whether computer games can even be considered art. The book is once again being published by Olaf Zimmermann, Managing Director of the German Cultural Council, and Felix Falk, Managing Director of game – The German Games Industry Association.

In addition to the book, an accompanying podcast is also planned for the first time. In eight episodes, radio journalist Tobias Nowak talks to the authors of the handbook about their topics. The first episodes of the podcast will be released on December 10, one day before the book's publication.
