Since 2018, the games industry in Baden-Württemberg has been organized as a regional representative of game in order to successfully promote issues at the state level. Now, there is a desire to strengthen this commitment, which requires its own association structure, which has now been established.

However, the founding of the Games Baden-Württemberg association does not mean that the games industry in Germany's southwesternmost state is breaking away from the industry association game. On the contrary: the new association is being created directly from the regional representation of game and will also be led by the previous spokespersons, Tom Burck from Gameforge and Laura Körting from LAB132. Steffen Schmidt, who heads the Center for E-Sports at KIT in Karlsruhe, will take over as third chair.

"Thanks to the dedicated work of many stakeholders, a lot has happened in Baden-Württemberg in recent years. As a result, the framework conditions for the local games industry have improved significantly," says Felix Falk, Managing Director of game – The German Games Industry Association. "The formal establishment of an association now also enables us to organize our own events to further strengthen networking within the regional industry. As game, we will continue to work closely with our local members and support them."

Laura Körting and Tom Burck, Chairpersons of Games Baden-Württemberg e.V., add. "We look forward to continuing to work with game, which has helped to promote the development work via the existing regional structure, as well as with local institutions to make Baden-Württemberg an even stronger location for games. The new association enables us to carry out additional activities for which our own local association structure is necessary."

The further development of the regional representation into an organization is indeed also an indication of the development of the games industry in Baden-Württemberg. In the biennial evaluations by game, the federal state usually ranks fifth among the most popular German games locations, behind the four leading hubs of Bavaria, North Rhine-Westphalia, Berlin, and Hamburg.

In all four of these federal states, the industry is also organized in one form or another with a regional association, or integrated into overarching structures or public-private partnerships. In federal states where no such structures existed, game had established corresponding regional representations since 2018, thereby supporting member companies in placing and further developing the topic of games at the state level. game Baden-Württemberg was the second representation founded (in German).

The fact that the former game Baden-Württemberg was well-connected here is also shown in an interview with Tom Burck and Laura Körting, which GamesMarkt 2024 conducted as part of a special publication on Baden-Württemberg as a location. The interview can be read online, and the special is available as an epaper.
