Games drive innovation and contribute to a democratic society. The gamescom Congress on 22 August 2024 in Cologne will focus on the potential of computer games. Suggestions for topics can now be submitted.

The gamescom congress will take place for the 16th time in 2024 as part of gamescom and is aimed at experts from various business sectors as well as culture, education, politics, science, journalism and game development. Last year, around 800 guests attended the event and 170,000 viewers watched the livestream. In 50 sessions, more than 100 experts from Germany and abroad showed how games can contribute to progress. The organisers (koelnmesse and game - the German Games Industry Association) are now looking for proposals for this year's gamescom congress, which can be submitted until 23 June 2024 (to the website).

Examples from practice or current research projects that demonstrate the innovative power of games and game technologies from different disciplines can be submitted for this year's edition. Contributions relating to this year's focus on democracy and artificial intelligence are particularly welcome. Submissions should highlight the potential and challenges of computer games and should not require specific knowledge of game development. The submission of a topic requires a meaningful title and a short description. A more detailed presentation of the proposed topic is not required at the time of submission.

Topic proposals should provide answers to the following questions, for example: - How can games strengthen our democratic society? - How do games contribute to democratic discourse? - How can games support children in need and encourage them to learn? - How can games enhance cultural diversity in our society? - How can industry and SMEs use game technologies to stimulate innovation and strengthen competitiveness?
