Welcome back to Cologne, welcome back to another fantastic gamescom. It’s already clear that this will be a record-breaking event, even though it has only just begun. With over 1,600 exhibitors, the number of companies participating is greater than ever before. The planned exhibition space was fully booked weeks before gamescom even began.
But as exciting as the news about gamescom may sound, it cannot hide the fact that the mood in the industry still hasn’t really brightened. The job market is hitting rock bottom. The consequences of AI for creative processes are just as unpredictable as the opportunities that arise from using AI as a tool for coders and developers.
That’s why AI is also a topic in Cologne, but it’s not the main focus. That honor goes to the games themselves – to the community, the industry, and the passion for gaming. 1,600 exhibitors means 1,600 examples of people pouring their heart and soul into gaming. These are great games, whether they’re Triple-A, AA, or indie.
Speaking of indie: A new record is in store here, too. The Indie Area is more fully booked than ever before. People’s interest in gaming is huge, and so is the interest of policymakers. It’s become standard practice to meet high-ranking politicians from Germany in Cologne. Nevertheless, the visit by the Federal President is something special. The same goes, by the way, for the visit by the Executive Vice-President of the European Commission.
We are looking forward to the coming days and wish you productive discussions, inspiring connections, and a fantastic experience. If you have any news you’d like to see published in gamescomDaily, please contact us either by email at newsdesk@gamesmarket.global or simply say hello if you see us in the Business Area or at our booth: Hall 4.1, D41. You’ll also find the new issue of GamesMarkt there. Be sure to pick up your copy.
Best regards – and here’s to a successful gamescom for all of us!
