Project Motor Racing's Approach to Online Competition
At the 2025 Tokyo Game Show, publisher Giants Software and developer Straight4 Studios unveiled the multiplayer mode for Project Motor Racing, free from "overly complicated paywalls and qualification hurdles".
Project Motor Racing will offer a "no-nonsense, full-service approach to online competition", according to Giants Software. "No passes. No rentals. No subscriptions," says Ian Bell, CEO of Straight4 Studios. "PMR gives you full online racing on day one, right out of the box - built for drivers who value clean, hard competition over complicated paywalls and qualification hurdles." This also includes "no server fees".
Alongside a 'survival'-style single-player career mode, multiplayer competitors in Project Motor Racing can look forward to cross-play monthly championships with weekly track rotation and scheduled race times, as well as two leaderboard modes: real-world lap times in Factory Driver Challenges and long-distance Endurance Hall Events. Players can also host their own races, choosing the cars, tracks and rules. For newcomers, there are 'Social Races', which are described as 15-minute casual events. Finally, there will be a Ranked Racing mode with matchmaking, divisions and per-class ranked grids.
Giants Software: "No subscription, native Ranked Racing defines multiplayer racing in PMR. Drivers begin their online career with a License Test at Lime Rock Park to set a fair baseline. From there, a 0-100 Driver Rating (per-class ratings, without ELO inflation) powers matchmaking and skill-based grids, while cross-platform championships unite PC and console players to keep races full, fun, and competitive."
At TGS, Giants Software and Straight4 Studios welcomed new marque partners: Acura (2022 Acura NSX GT3 Evo 22), Chevrolet (2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R), Mazda (2017 Mazda MX-5 Spec and 1991 Mazda 787B), Mercedes-AMG (2020 Mercedes-AMG GT3), Nissan (2023 Nissan Z GT4) and Toyota (2023 Toyota GR Supra GT4 Evo), thereby expanding the 70-car roster. The Sebring International Raceway, one of the oldest continuously operated racetracks in the US, will be included in the game's track lineup.
Project Motor Racing will launch worldwide on 25 November 2025 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
