German games companies are committed to improving environmental and climate protection. Eight out of ten games companies implement three or more environmental protection measures, such as using green electricity or energy and heating saving.

Environmental and climate protection play an important role for the entire games industry. The majority of games companies in Germany are already implementing measures and projects in their day-to-day business in order to operate more sustainably, as a recent survey by game - Association of the German Games Industry - shows. 68 percent of games companies in Germany already use green electricity and a further 16 percent are currently planning to switch to this. 76 percent use energy-saving measures, such as heating, and a further 10 percent are planning to do so.

The majority of games companies are also environmentally conscious when it comes to mobility: 68 percent of them specifically encourage their employees to use public transport or bicycles, and 61 percent deliberately avoid flying for business trips. In addition, 29 percent offset climate-damaging emissions through targeted CO2 compensation; 25 percent are planning such a project. In total, 84 percent of games companies are currently implementing at least three environmental protection measures and projects in their day-to-day business. The data is based on an online survey conducted by game - the German Games Industry Association - in which 125 member companies from the German games industry, including developers and publishers in particular, took part between 6 December and 12 December. As part of the survey, the companies were asked to rate their own commitment to greater environmental and climate protection in their own operations on the basis of a total of seven environmental protection measures.

"Protecting our environment and fighting climate change are important issues for us in the games industry. Games companies have been continuously involved in this challenge for society as a whole for years, with numerous effective projects. For example, many games companies are making far-reaching changes to their own work and production processes to make their business more environmentally friendly, involving the games community even more through special environmental campaigns, or participating in initiatives where important ideas are exchanged and implemented," says Felix Falk, Managing Director of game.

Falk continues: "As an association, we are also committed to becoming more climate-friendly, for example with our environmental guide with practical tips for companies or as co-organisers of gamescom with the sustainability initiative 'gamescom goes green'. As the games industry, we are also aware of our responsibility in this area and want to make our contribution to an increasingly positive development. The aforementioned environmental guide can be downloaded from game. Examples include the "Playing For The Planet Alliance" initiative between the United Nations and the games industry, the "Green Game Jams" and "gamescom goes green".
