Hooded Horse, Unfrozen Studio and Ubisoft are set to release Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era on 30 April 2026 via Steam Early Access and the Microsoft Store via Game Preview - no, it's not an April Fool's joke. The game will also be available on PC Game Pass from day one. Hooded Horse had a very positive experience with a major release at the end of April. On 26 April 2024, they published Manor Lords, which sold over one million copies in under two days and has now sold over three million.

Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era is the first new game in the Heroes series in over ten years. It has been designed with both series veterans and newcomers in mind. The game is built on the familiar foundations of the strategy franchise and introduces new and classic game modes, including a narrative campaign, Single Hero mode, Classic skirmish mode, Arena mode and premade scenarios, as well as multiplayer. Players can engage in strategic empire building and turn-based tactical battles while exploring vibrant, procedurally generated and hand-crafted maps. The developers have done a great job of capturing the feel of the classic game. The game will be localised into German, French, Spanish, Italian, Polish, Czech, Hungarian, Turkish, Ukrainian, Russian, Brazilian Portuguese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Korean and Japanese, with full audio.

The game, which is designed to be a modern spiritual successor to Heroes of Might and Magic III (HoMM 3), is being developed by Unfrozen, an international game development studio focused on premium PC and console titles, headquartered in Limassol, Cyprus. The team is best known for the turn-based RPG Iratus: Lord of the Dead (published by Daedalic Entertainment). The studio is part of the GEM Capital portfolio. Jon Van Caneghem, creator of Heroes of Might and Magic, has joined the team as Creative Advisor on Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era. This marks his return to the Heroes universe for the first time since Heroes of Might and Magic IV (2002).

The game is published by Hooded Horse, a publisher specialising in strategic and tactical games, known for Manor Lords, Against the Storm, Endless Legend 2, Old World, Norland and 9 Kings. Ubisoft, which continues to hold the rights to the franchise, announced a publishing partnership with Hooded Horse in July 2025. "We are thrilled to welcome Hooded Horse aboard to support the next chapter of Heroes of Might and Magic," said Alain Corre, Chief Publishing Officer at Ubisoft, when announcing this deal. "Their passion for the franchise and strong connection with strategy communities make them the perfect complement to Unfrozen’s creative talent. Together, we'll reignite Heroes of Might and Magic and bring players to exciting, unexplored realms."
