The editorial team of Apple's App Store has awarded five apps and four games with the App Store Award 2023. They also agreed on a trend of the year and awarded five special prizes in the category "Cultural Influence", one of which went to Fein Games in Berlin for "Finding Hannah".

It was not enough to win the German Computer Game Award in the "Best Graphic Design" category, but Fein Games from Berlin can look forward to an App Store Award in 2023, which is presented annually by Apple's editorial team. The winners were announced early this morning due to the time difference with Apple's US headquarters. Five apps and four games were honoured, the best app and game of the year on iPhone, iPad and Mac respectively, as well as the Apple TV app and the Apple Watch app of the year. The Games category also includes the Apple Arcade Game of the Year.

Fein Games' "Finding Hannah" did not win in any of the standard categories, but won the Apple Appstore Award 2023 along with four other applications in the special "Cultural Influence" category. The other winners are Pok Pok, Proloquo, Too Good To Go and Unpacking. These are apps that deal with inclusion, accessible communication, food waste or change and connection. Despite several nominations, no other apps and games from Germany or German-speaking countries were awarded.

For the first time, the editorial team of Apple's Appstore has also named a global "Trend of the Year". They describe it as the use of generative AI in development. As well as highlighting the winning apps and games, the Appstore editors have also compiled a collection of what they consider to be interesting generative AI apps for you to discover.

"It's inspiring to see how developers continue to release incredible apps and games that redefine the world around us," said Tim Cook, Apple's CEO. "This year's winners embody the limitless potential of developers to bring their visions to life by creating apps and games with impressive ingenuity, exceptional quality and purpose."
