Hooded Horse has announced a new addition to its portfolio: Substructure, developed by Dubious Design. This independent UK studio was founded in 2024 by two friends who are behind one of Factorio's most popular mods, Ultracube. They are now ready to launch their own bid in the factory/automation genre, which is reminiscent of Factorio but also has its own twist.

Set on a rogue planet, the game tasks players with establishing complex automated factories and production chains on the planet's lush surface in order to support further exploration beneath its crust. Players can build programmable elevator shafts to explore the depths and adapt production chains to utilise resources from different layers. The game can be played alone or cooperatively with friends. As the game has been developed by modders, mod support will be available from day one.

"Dubious Design is building something that goes far beyond the usual factory-builder," says Hooded Horse CEO Tim Bender. "Between the vertical layers, intricate logistics, and day one support for modding and co-op, this will be the last factory game you'll ever play."

"We couldn't be happier to (finally) announce we're working with Hooded Horse," says Dubious Design CEO Michael Donoghue. "It was clear from the outset that we had a shared passion for these types of experiences, and together we’ll be able to make Substructure truly great. We could not have hoped for a better partner."

Substructure is coming to PC via Steam Early Access. No release date has been announced. The game will be translated into German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Polish, Czech, Hungarian, Turkish, Ukrainian, Russian, Brazilian Portuguese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Korean and Japanese from English.

Hooded Horse is a publisher of strategic and tactical games. Its portfolio includes Manor Lords, Against the Storm, Endless Legend 2, Old World, Norland, and Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era, Super Fantasy Kingdom, and 9 Kings (in collaboration with Instinct3). Hexxen: Hunters from Ulisses Spiele Digital, Drill Keeper from ShoulderByte and Menace from Overhype Studios (05 Feb 2026) are set to be released in the coming months. All of these games originate from Germany. Hooded Horse has also taken over the distribution of Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew from Mimimi Games.
