The successful VR puzzle game Puzzling Places by Realities.io from San Mateo and Berlin is being ported to flat screens and PC VR. The 3D puzzles were a big hit on Meta headsets. The 2D version was also funded by MBB.

The indie studio Realities.io, with offices in the US (San Mateo) and Germany (Berlin), is bringing the successful VR puzzle game Puzzling Places, with over 400,000 players on Meta headsets, to flat screens and PC VR (Steam).

In this game, players assemble 3D dioramas from various puzzle pieces. There are no quests, timers or levels, just over 30 puzzles made from 3D scans of real-world locations, with varying levels of difficulty. Each puzzle is available in 25, 50, 100, 200, 400 pieces - and some in 800 or 1000 pieces. Quick puzzles are available in Arcade mode, while puzzles in Tabletop mode can take much, much longer.

At the end of September, Realities.io received €250,000 in New Media Funding from Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg for Puzzling Places 2D. Founded in 2016, Realities.io sees itself as a pioneer in 3D photography. Realities.io's technology has powered the early Steam VR app Realities, a number of VR films and experiences, including Home After War, which won "Best Use of Immersive Arts" at SXSW 2019, and the VR puzzle game Puzzling Places.
