Just in time for tomorrow's start of Oktoberfest 2025, Munich-based K5 Factory is celebrating the full release of its social VR game for Meta Quest with new content. In addition, work is already underway on the next update, which is scheduled for release around Halloween.

Oktoberfest 2.0, as K5 Factory has titled the game's full release after releasing it in Early Access last year, includes the new Barrel Hunt, among other features. Other new content includes the Creators Kit, which allows players to take screenshots and record videos to share within the game.

Meta itself is featuring the Munich-based company's game with an interview with Creative Director Jan Lachauer. "Growing up in Munich, the festival has been a huge influence on this project. My earliest memories aren’t of the beer tents, but of the gigantic fairground surrounding them — the rides, attractions, and booths that bring people together in play and excitement. That’s the spirit we wanted to recreate: using games as a social catalyst, giving players a way to connect, collaborate, and celebrate together in a vibrant, playful environment," Lachauer told Meta.

The interview also addresses the question of how to capture the dense atmosphere in a social VR experience where the number of players on the server must be limited for performance reasons, as Lachauer admits. K5's solution to this is a mixture of sufficient NPCs and an authentic soundscape, in which spatial audio plays an essential role.

Lachauer also revealed on the platform that K5 Factory is far from done with the Oktoberfest theme. They are already working on the next update, which is scheduled to be released around Halloween. He is also excited to see what ideas the community will come up with, because that's a great part of working on a live game: that the game is constantly evolving and adapting to the needs and requests of the players.
