Developed by Studio Seufz in Stuttgart and published by AMC Games, Lucky Tower Ultimate has exited Early Access. In this slapstick roguelite adventure, which is a continuation of the classic Flash game series, the clumsy medieval hero Von Wanst must escape a dangerous, procedurally generated tower.
The original Lucky Tower series comprises two Flash games about the clumsy yet self-obsessed medieval hero, Von Wanst. While the first part is based on intuitive gameplay and fast-paced slapstick humour, the second part lets players explore a bigger world that is still full of impromptu humour. Making the leap from the outdated Flash platform to PC and Switch, Lucky Tower Ultimate captures the essence of the first two games and incorporates modern roguelite and modular narratives to increase replayability. It has been in development at Studio Seufz since 2020. The game was unveiled in August 2021 and entered Early Access on 13 September 2024. After almost a year and a half, Version 1.0 was released on 16 April 2026.
Lucky Tower Ultimate is a roguelite game with absurd, cartoonish slapstick humour and a hand-drawn aesthetic. Players control the clumsy medieval hero Von Wanst, who must escape from a randomly generated tower. To succeed, they must fight their way through randomly generated floors, solve puzzles, and avoid traps. Most importantly, he must make the right decision behind each door to avoid an absurdly funny death. Players will perish at the hands of Evelius (the tower's evil mastermind) countless times before reaching the local village. After death, players lose their current progress in the tower. However, at the same time, the village at the foot of the tower can be constantly expanded - this is the roguelite meta progress.
With its hand-drawn 2D look, the game captures the humour (slapstick & cartoon humour plus absurd dialogue; full voice acting) and art style of the original Flash games. Almost everything in the game is interactive. Players can throw enemies, 'use' companions, break through walls or combine objects in unconventional ways. The physics-based combat involving weapons such as broccoli and dead enemies initially feels somewhat imprecise, but players will soon develop a feel for the ranges and timing. Additionally, the companions have their own agendas, leading to unpredictable and chaotic situations — sometimes their stupidity even causes Van Wanst to die. Lucky Tower encourages experimentation, improvisation and mastery as players progress through the tower. The game relies on unpredictable chaos and character-driven design, with humour woven into the game mechanics and the possibilities of the action, rather than being an afterthought. While many of the character deaths are exaggerated and humorous, the game can still be frustrating due to its random effects. That's why the developers have added an Easy mode even in Early Access.
The 1.0 launch update contains new locations, including the castle and Evelius's lair. It also features more than 600 new voice lines, additional music, a new set of items, and 10 new achievements, bringing the total to 99. During Early Access updates added a new area; the cave that leads out of the tower, a new companion; the Princess, who starts out as an enemy and can be convinced to join the party, along with many new items, weapons, armor, hairstyles, traps, enemies and quests.
"We're so excited for Lucky Tower Ultimate to be leaving Early Access and launching into 1.0. We wish our players the best of luck defeating Evelius and destroying the tower, we couldn’t have made the game as hard and as ridiculous as it is without them." - Anselm Pyta, co-designer and lead artist of the Lucky Tower series
Lucky Tower Ultimate is a game developed by Studio Seufz. Founded in early 2017 by Stefan Michel, Anselm Pyta and Benedikt Hummel, the studio is based in Stuttgart, Germany, and is committed to creating animated films and indie games. All three founding members successfully graduated from courses related to animation, film and games producing, and interactive media at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg. Benedikt Hummel and Anselm Pyta had been creating small Flash games and animations since their teenage years, some of which went viral on the internet. They joined forces with Stefan Michel. Since then, they have produced major commissions such as the music video for the Freddie Mercury anniversary release of "Love Me Like There's No Tomorrow", while simultaneously curating their video games, such as Murder which received over 200 millions clicks to date. The studio's first premium game release was the experimental PC game The Longing, on which the studio has been working since its foundation. It won the Long Feature Award at A MAZE. It was also a finalist for the Nuovo Award at the 2020 Independent Games Festival. At the Deutscher Computerspielpreis, The Longing won the 'Best Debut' award and received two other nominations. The game was released on 5 March 2020. It is an unusual combination of adventure and idle game. Deep below the surface and in utter loneliness, players must wait 400 days for their king to awaken.
The prototype of Lucky Tower Ultimate was funded by MFG Baden-Württemberg, with support from the Creative Europe Programme – MEDIA. Production was also financially supported by MFG Baden-Württemberg, BMVI and Creative Europe MEDIA. The game was further supported by the German federal government's computer game funding programme, receiving €365,000 between July 2022 and September 2024.
AMC Games, the video game publishing arm of AMC Networks, is the publisher of Lucky Tower Ultimate. Since launching in 2020 with the IGF-nominated flight passenger simulator Airplane Mode, AMC Games has produced titles including the metal-detecting game The Magnificent Trufflepigs and the pulp-horror strategy game Fabulous Fear Machine.
Lucky Tower Ultimate was released on 16 April 2026 for PC (via Steam and the Epic Games Store) and Switch, priced at €14.99.
