"Mass Effect 2" ist der große Gewinner der diesjährigen Interactive Achievement Awards, die am Abend des 10. Februar in Las Vegas verliehen wurden.

Electronic Arts und BioWare wurden am Abend des 10. Februar in Las Vegas für das Spiel des Jahres geehrt. Mit insgesamt drei Preisen ging "Mass Effect 2" als der große Gewinner aus der Verleihung der Interactive Achievement Awards hervor, die die Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences in der Wüstenmetropole verliehen hat. Zwar gewann Top-Favorit "Red Dead Redemption" einen Preis mehr, die prestigeträchtige Hauptkategorie "Game of the Year" entschied aber "Mass Effect 2" für sich. Mehr als achtbar geschlagen haben sich auch die wenigen europäischen Vertreter. Die Auszeichnungen für das "Adventure Game of the Year" und "Outstanding Achievement in Sound Design" gingen an die dänische Independent-Produktion "Limbo". Für die Macher von Playdead ist die renommierte Auszeichnung die Krönung eines schon sehr erfolgreichen Jahres. Im Xbox-Live-Netzwerk war der Kritikerliebling "Limbo" die umsatzstärkste Veröffentlichung 2010.

Dreifach siegte das französische Studio Quantic Dream. Für das PlayStation-3-Meisterwerk "Heavy Rain" erhielten die Franzosen die Auszeichnungen in den Kategorien "Outstanding Innovation in Gaming", "Outstanding Achievement in Visual Engineering" und "Outstanding Achievement in Original Music Composition". Dritter europäischer Preisträger ist das Duo Chillingo/Rovio, das für den "iOS"-Hit "Angry Birds" den Preis in den Kategorien "Casual Game of the Year" entgegennehmen durfte. Deutschland ist in diesem Jahr leer ausgegangen und war nicht einmal bei den Nominierungen vertreten. Das dürfte 2011 anders aussehen, wenn Crytek mit "Crysis 2" ins Rennen geht.
