Bloomberg claims to have learned from internal sources at Sony Interactive Entertainment that no more PC ports of single-player PlayStation-exclusive games will be released in future.
According to anonymous sources familiar with the company's plans, Sony Group Corp. no longer intends to release major PlayStation 5 games on PC. This marks a significant shift in strategy after six years of experimenting with multi-platform releases. As Jason Schreier's article points out, online and multiplayer titles such as Marathon and Marvel Tokon will continue to be released on multiple platforms. However, single-player titles such as Ghost of Yotei (2025) and the upcoming Saros will remain exclusive to the PlayStation 5 console. A PlayStation spokesperson declined to comment when approached by Bloomberg. Two games developed by external studios but published by PlayStation, Death Stranding 2: On The Beach and the upcoming Kena: Scars of Kosmora, are still planned for release on PC this year.
Recent speculation suggests that the shift in strategy may be due to underperforming PC sales of recent PlayStation games, despite the success of initial releases such as God of War, Ghost of Tsushima and Days Gone. There are also concerns that releasing games on PC could damage the PlayStation brand and reduce sales of the PlayStation 5 and future consoles.
