Developed by Grizzly Games, Thronefall is a classic strategy and kingdom defense game with simple, accessible gameplay. Following its Early Access release in 2023, Thronefall was launched on PC and Nintendo Switch in 2024, and on mobile devices in 2025. It has sold over one million units.
"Being just two people at Grizzly Games we always felt we lacked the resources to wholly explore what Thronefall could potentially be", said Paul Schnepf, Developer at Grizzly Games. "While players kept longing for new content, Jonas and I were also keen to move on to new projects. It's incredibly exciting to hand off the entire IP to Mythwright - a team we trust to take great care of both the game and its community. We can’t wait to see where they take it next and for players to enjoy what comes from this new chapter."
So, it seems, history repeats itself. Grizzly Games sold IP Islanders, their last game before Thronefall, to Coatsink so that they could focus fully on their next project.
"With its iconic minimalism that perfectly captures the fun of strategy gaming, Thronefall is a firm favourite at Mythwright", said Stuart Morton, Publishing Director at Mythwright. "We are incredibly honoured that Grizzly Games trusts us to take over future development, and we can't wait to extend their vision into a bright future by bringing players more of what they love."
Thronefall is the latest addition to Mythwright's growing catalogue of niche titles. The independent publisher based in the UK will launch Bladesong, Kaiju Cleanup, TerraTech Legion, Cozy Marbles and Scriptorium: Master of Manuscripts, and Deadstick - Bush Flight Simulator in 2026. Mythwright will continue the close partnership established by Grizzly Games with Doghowl Games, who launched Thronefall on Android and iOS. The mobile version was nominated for the 2025 Apple Mobile Game of the Year award. Doghowl will continue to publish the mobile versions.
