Göteborg Book Fair Sets Games as One of Three Themes for 2026
Having just concluded with nearly 100,000 visitors, the Gothenburg Book Fair has unveiled the themes for its 2026 event. In addition to Quebec and public education, games will be a key focus. The Swedish association Dataspelsbranchen is delighted.
Books and games are a perfect match, yet despite regular attempts to foster collaboration, the two industries struggle to come together on a regular basis. In Germany, for example, delegations regularly attend gamescom and, conversely, the Frankfurt Book Fair. The book fair in Gothenburg, Sweden, is now going one step further. At the end of this year's event, the three main themes for 2026 were announced: Quebec, public education, and games.
"We think this is a great recognition of games as culture. Games can also contribute to literature by being interactive, which is a unique feature of games. Every reader interprets a book differently, but in games it is the player who creates the game," says Per Strömbäck, Managing Director of Datasopeklsbranchen Swedish Games Industry.
The Gothenburg Book Fair, also known as Bok & Bibliotek, is the largest book fair in Scandinavia. According to the final report, the 2025 edition attracted 95,706 visitors, who gathered information from 775 exhibitors with 3,250 participants from 35 countries. In 2026, it will take place from September 24 to 27.
