The Pokémon Company has announced that Pokémon Legends Z-A, which was released worldwide on 16 October 2025, sold 5.8 million copies globally in its first week. Both retail and digital sales are included. According to Nintendo, around half of these sales were on the Nintendo Switch 2. Famitsu reports that the game sold almost 1.5 million copies in Japan alone during its first four days on sale, with 41 per cent of these being sold on Switch 2.

This means that the game had a slower debut than Pokémon Legends Arceus (2022), which sold over 6.5 million copies on Switch in its first three days. It also trails behind the following mainline releases: Pokémon Scarlet & Violet (2022; 10 million copies sold in three days), Pokémon Sword & Shield (2019; 6 million copies sold in three days) and Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl (2021; 6 million copies sold in three days).
