Nintendo Announces Switch 2 Bundle With Pokémon Legends: Z-A

During a Pokémon Presents showcase, Nintendo announced a Switch 2 bundle that includes Pokémon Legends: Z-A. Further details about the game were also revealed, and Pokémon Champions and Pokémon Friends were presented.

The Pokémon Company hosted a special Pokémon Presents event, which was streamed online. The video presentation featured new announcements and reveals from the globally popular entertainment franchise. During this showcase, a new Nintendo Switch 2 bundle was announced, which will be released on 16 October alongside Pokémon Legends: Z-A. This bundle contains the Nintendo Switch 2 console and a digital code for downloading Pokémon Legends: Z-A - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition. This is the second Nintendo Switch 2 bundle, aside from the launch package with Mario Kart World. Pokémon Legends: Z-A will also be released for the Nintendo Switch.

New details about the game: "During the day, Trainers can explore the vibrant city and find Pokémon in wild zones, where they may encounter strong wild Pokémon known as alpha Pokémon. These Pokémon are larger than their regular counterparts, have glowing red eyes, and are particularly powerful and difficult to catch. At night, players can also compete in the Z-A Royale and aim to climb the ranks, with battles against even more powerful Trainers awaiting as the player advances. (...) A strange phenomenon is happening in Lumiose City—some wild Pokémon are Mega Evolving on their own and going on rampages. Quasartico Inc., the corporation driving Lumiose City's redevelopment, will task the player and the rest of Team MZ to investigate these strange occurrences. Together, they will battle and calm a variety of Rogue Mega-Evolved Pokémon. Trainers who succeed will obtain Mega Stones as rewards."

Pokémon Champions is scheduled to be released in 2026 on the Nintendo Switch 2, the original Nintendo Switch, and on iOS and Android devices. In this game, players can recruit Pokémon to join their teams and battle other trainers. Three different battle modes (Ranked, Casual and Private) are available, and these can be played in Single Battle or Double Battle formats.

Pokémon Friends is a puzzle game that is already available on the Nintendo Switch (also compatible with Nintendo Switch 2), as well as on iOS and Android devices. Trainers can solve puzzles inspired by the Pokémon universe and earn yarn, which can then be used in the Plush-O-Matic to create plush Pokémon characters in the game. Developed in collaboration with Wonderfy Inc., Pokémon Friends features over 1,200 puzzles.

Pokémon and Aardman have partnered to create a new stop-motion animated series due to be released in 2027.

To build excitement for the 26 September 2025 release of the Mega Evolution expansion for the popular Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG), The Pokémon Company revealed more new cards for players to enjoy, such as Mega Lucario EX, Mega Kangaskhan EX, and Mega Gardevoir EX. The Pokémon Company: "Trainers from around the world will battle across various Pokémon titles at the 2025 Pokémon World Championships from 15 to 17 August in Anaheim, California. Following the previous announcement of the Worlds celebratory Pikachu card, artwork for the Paradise Resort promo card - given to those competing in the World Championships (while supplies last) - was revealed during the Pokémon Presents."
