This December, Sony Interactive Entertainment will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the release of the first PlayStation. The company has now announced the first events to mark the occasion. There are also increasing signs of a PlayStation 5 Pro.

The first PlayStation was released in Japan on 3 December 1994 and this year Sony Interactive Entertainment is celebrating the 30th anniversary of PlayStation. Today's release of Astro Bot, which features a host of guest characters from PlayStation history, is just one of the activities planned.

My First GT, a free trial version of the Gran Turismo 7 racing game, will be released over the Christmas period to recapture the nostalgia of the very first GT experience. In collaboration with Sony Music, a series of digital soundtracks from PlayStation game franchises such as God of War and Twisted Metal will be released on Spotify from October 2024 to January 2025. The soundtracks will also be available on other music services such as Amazon Music and Apple Music. A playlist created to celebrate the 30th anniversary of PlayStation is also available on Spotify.

A new collection of products created by the team responsible for designing PlayStation consoles - all based on the distinctive PlayStation icons - has been announced. The collection includes Shapes of Play: Battle, Shapes of Play: Create and Shapes of Play: Recharge and will be available from direct.playstation.com from December. Shapes of Play: Battle is a board game where you have to arrange four different shapes of the same colour on the board. Shapes of Play: Create is a set of magnetic blocks, Shapes of Play: Recharge is a set of four soft silicone shapes.

This month, from 21 to 22 September, PlayStation users can take part in a free online multiplayer weekend and esports tournaments. On these days, online multiplayer will be available on PS5 and PS4 consoles without a PlayStation Plus membership. A number of tournaments will take place over the same weekend, featuring titles such as NBA 2K24, Madden NFL 24 and Tekken 8. https://compete.playstation.com/de-de/all/

There has also been speculation about a PlayStation 5 Pro, which could be announced at Tokyo Game Show 2024. The PS5 Pro rumour was fuelled by the discovery of a console with the four-stripe design on the 30th anniversary PlayStation image.
